Questions on Sangean DAR-101 Phone Recording Device

  • From: Santokh Singh
    • When it's set to record all phone conversations, does it say or make any noise prior to notify them that it's recording? I am looking for something that doesn't say anything and just records any incoming and outgoing calls.
    • Hi Santokh, you can set the device to be completely silent, so it will automatically record all incoming and outgoing calls and nobody will be able to tell the recorder is active.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: curtis
    • 1.does it comes on auto when the phone is active.
2.can i run two phones off of it.
    • Hi Curtis, yes it comes on automatically whenever any of the phones in the house are active. It connects to any available wall jack in your house, not the actual telephone. So if you have two telephones in your house on that one phone line, yes, it will record all conversations from all phones.

  • From: Hi I have Voice over IP phone (vonage) is this work for that.
    • Hi I have Voice over IP phone (vonage) is this work for that.
    • Hi, yes it will work. Just unplug your phone base from the Vonage box and plug in the splitter that comes with this recorder. That will allow you to then plug in both your phone base and the telephone recorder.

  • From: Lin
    • With plugged in headphones, can you monitor a live conversation, while the conversation is being recorded?
    • Hi Lin, yes, with plugged in headphones you can monitor a live conversation while it's being recorded.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: ln
    • Can you turn it off for the calls you don't want recorded?
    • Hello, yes you can turn it off for certain calls. Or, if you don't want it to record phone calls automatically, you can just turn the automatic feature off. Then it will always be set for you to just manually start and stop the recording whenever you press the buttons.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: Joan
    • Is each phone call its own mp3 so you can delete some recordings but not others?
    • Hi Joan, yes that's correct. Each phone conversation is saved as it's own file so you can selectively delete certain recordings.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: Rick
    • Can you set this unit up to let everyone calling in know that the call is being recorded?
      Thanks
      Rick
    • Hi Rick, yes, if you'd like to, there is a beep tone you can turn on in the settings menu. If you have it on, it will emit a beep that all parties on the phone call can hear about every 10 seconds or so.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: JOE H.
    • Greetings,

Will this device work with wireless phone as well as hardline phones or any combination of both? If so.....I'll order one as soon as I get a return message and answer to my question.

      Thank you

      Joe
    • Hi Joe, if you're talking about using this on a regular home single-line phone service, then yes, it will work on portable phones as well as hardwired phones. This is because you connect the phone recorder into a wall jack, and not a particular telephone. So it can record all phones that are on the line, even the portable phones.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: K
    • Does this recording system work with cordless phones?
    • Hi K, yes it will work with cordless phones, if what you're asking about is the kind on a normal single-line home telephone service. It works because you plug it into a wall jack, and not an actual phone. Since it's plugged directly into the line, it can record phone calls from all phones on the line.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: Tommy B.
    • Will this work for a digital phone off of a PBX?
    • Hi Tommy, no this one is made for home phone lines or businesses that have standard analog lines, not PBX.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: richard jeansonne
    • How will I transfer calls to my pc?

    • Hi Richard, if you want to transfer the recording to your PC, you will remove the SD card from the recorder and put the SD card into your PC. If you don't have an SD slot on your computer, than you can purchase the USB SD Card Reader which then allows you to plug it into the USB slot.

  • From: Keith
    • Will this unit work with MajicJack?
    • Hi Keith. Yes, the telephone recorder will work with Magic Jack.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From: louisa
    • Can i record an hour or so of talking into a microphone when NOT connected to the phone, to make a meditation recording for example? Does a microphone come with this device? If not, what is the size needed to fit the jack?
Also, i have cordless phones - if i plug it into the same jack as the base unit, will it record phone conversations on the other phones?
      thank you!
    • Hi Louisa, yes you can record in-person conversations. There is a built-in microphone, so you wouldn't even need to plug one in. There is not a microphone included, but the jack is the larger size jack, so if you have a smaller size microphone plug, you could easily get an adapter to convert it. To answer your other question, you plug this into the wall jack, so it's connected directly into the phone line and will therefore record all phones in use on the line, no matter what jack the phone is plugged into.

  • From: Hugo
    • Hi, will this device work on a DSL Line?
    • Hi Hugo, yes it will work on a DSL line as long as you connect a DSL filter to the line you use to connect it.

    • I have comcast phone which is connected to a modem box. Will it work with comcast.
    • Yes, it will work with Comcast. It comes with a splitter, so you can unplug your phone base from the modem box and then plug in the adapter that will allow you to plug in both your telephone and the recorder.

  • From: david galik
    • I have a magic jack phone that I can only use with my PC turned on. It is downloaded onto my PC. Can I somehow use this recorder with it?
    • Hi David, yes, it will work with Magic Jack. The way you would connect it to work is to use the 1-to-2 splitter that comes with the recorder and plug it into the slot on your Magic Jack instead of plugging your phone into the Magic Jack. You would unplug your phone and plug in the splitter. Then you will be able to plug both the phone and the recorder into the splitter.

  • From: Rami
    • Will this work with a cordless Panasonic telephone such the Panasonic Model Kx-TG1032s Dect 6.0?
    • Hi Rami, yes it will work with all telephones, because it plugs into the wall jack in your house, not the telephone. So once you plug it into the wall jack, it will record phone calls from all telephones connected to that line, no matter what jack the phone base is connected to. This is because the recorder is connected directly into the phone line.

    • How do you turn it off for calls you don't want recorded? Provide specifics in the record setup please.
    • You can turn the automatic recording feature off, allowing you to just manually select certain calls to record by pressing the record button. Just go into the "Record Setup" menu and then in the "Rec Standby" setting, just set it to "off".

  • From: Steve
    • Does the device record calls on a digital line or multi-extension office phone?
Can it be connected between a digital phone and the handset of your phone to record the conversations?
      Thank you
    • Hi Steve, no, the DAR-101 will not work on a multi-extension office system. The usual way to connect recorders in that situation is through the handset, and this model is only made to plug into the wall jack, like on a standard home phone line.

  • From: Randy
    • Can I set a pre-conversation message that informs all parties involved that the cal is/may be(ing) recorded or is the BEEP the way to do this?
      Thank You
    • Hi Randy, the recorder doesn't have a message you can play, but it does have the option of turning on a beep tone that will beep during the recording. Having the beep is the way most people do it. You can also just state yourself that the call is being recorded.
