Questions on Call Assistant SD Phone Recorder - Caller ID
- From: meghnath
- Can i install on land line phone secretly?
- Hi meghnath, yes you can secretly record phone calls. It can be plugged into any wall jack in the house. Then it will record all phones on that line, no matter what wall jack the phone being used is plugged into. This is because the recorder is connected directly into the phone line, and not one particular telephone. So, if you have a jack somewhere in the house that you can "hide" the recorder so the others won't notice it, that's how you do it.

- Is it compatible w / VOIP land lines?
- Hi Dave, yes it is compatible. If you use an ATA Adapter with your VOIP (a box that converts the digital phone signal to analog, thus allowing you to plug in any regular telephone) then you can use this recorder in Line Mode by plugging it where you normally plug in your telephone. If you don't use an ATA and use some sort of special telephone, then you can use the recorder in Handset Mode (as long as you can unplug your handset cord from the phone base).

- can i directly download data from sd card instead connecting to PC using usb.
My concern is that can swamp the sd card and down load recording insted connecting the recorder to PC.
- Hi Jack, yes, that is exactly how it works, by removing the SD card from the recorder and putting it into your PC. So swapping out the SD card is perfectly fine.

- Will this work on cordless phones?
- Hi Mark, this recorder can connect in two ways: Line Mode or Handset Mode. If you are connecting this to a standard home phone line, then yes, it will work on cordless phones, because you'll use it in Line Mode and it's plugging into a wall jack and not a particular telephone. It will record all telephones on the line, no matter what wall jack the phone is plugged into, including cordless handsets.

- Can you listen in on live calls or do you have to wait to hear the recorded call?
- Hi Robert, if you are using it connected in Line Mode, then you can use one of the other phones on the line to listen in live. But if you you're asking about listening through the just recorder itself, then no, you would need to wait for the recorded call to play it back.

- when the recorder is plugged into another phone jack in the house will it still record automatically or will it have to be used in the manual mode.
- Hi Alvin, it will automatically record all phones in the house, no matter what wall jack the phone is plugged into, because the recorder is plugged directly into the line and will detect all calls on the line.

- I see that the recorder has batteries and plugs into an AC wall outlet. If the AC power fails, do the batteries take over so that calls can be recorded until the AC power is restored?
- Hi Jake, yes, the batteries are for a backup source if the AC power fails. Please note, however, that they're not intended to run full time on batteries though.

- What format are the calls natively recorded to the SD card in? Do I have to use the included software to convert the audio files into a standard format such as wav, or mp3?
- Hi Fred, on that model the calls are recorded in a proprietary format. The included software does have a one-click option for you to convert it to .wav format.
