Telephone call recorder systems are useful in recording and documenting calls, whether they are received or made. Recording phone calls is a useful tool, especially when recording issues of vital importance. From CEOs, to call center employees, to the general public, the ability to record calls comes in handy for nearly everyone. Most importantly, recorded telephone calls are a concrete, irrefutable record of a conversation, which can be used in legal matters. This brings us to the legal issues involved in telephone call recording. Recording a call is perfectly fine if there is consent for the recording. Currently, consent consists of two possible types:
This brings us to the legal issues involved in phone call recording. Recording a call is fine if there is consent for the recording. Currently, legal consent consists of two possible types:

  • One party consent
  • All party consent
One-Party Consent
One-party consent means that at least one person is aware of the phone recording. The laws and regulations on phone call recording differ by federal and state governments. These regulations are based on wiretapping and eavesdropping legislation. Only one party consent is required in thirty-seven states and the District of Columbia; this means that you are allowed to record conversations which you are party to without informing the other party. Additionally, regardless of the state, it is not legal to record a call to which you are not a party, or a call that you do not have permission to record. It is not legal to disclose the content of an illegally recorded conversation, except where litigation is concerned.

All-Party Consent
All-party consent involves notification that the phone call is being recorded. This may be verbal notification or in the form of an intermittent beep that both parties on the line can hear. Twelve states in the United States require all party consent, whereas most states have only one-party consent. If the telephone call recording is on an interstate level, make sure you follow the regulations of both states.

International Telephone Call Recording
In the United Kingdom, individuals can record their phone calls for their own use. It is prohibited to provide the recorded information to a third party. At the international level, phone call recording regulations vary from one country to another. In many less-developed countries no clear laws exist pertaining to telephone call recorders.

Business Telephone Call Recording
Businesses can monitor calls related to their primary business. If the phone call is being recorded for purposes such as market research or customer service quality control, then the other party must be informed before recording commences.

Protect Yourself
When using telephone call recording equipment check your state legislation. There are various types of telephone call recorders on the market today. You can use the latest state-of-the-art equipment to record your most important telephone calls and protect your interests.
